Something for the Weekend
If you're in LA, come hang at Ali LeRoi's walkthrough, plus a lovely review of a recently juried exhibition
Yes, I know I said you will not hear from me until the end of the month, but you guys, I couldn’t leave without sharing this with you. Just before a gorgeous June weekend envelops you in sunlight and too many events on your calendar, let me add some more to the mix!
On Saturday, June 20th, starting at 3pm, Radio Free Ali will lead a walkthrough of his exhibition Everybody Hates Exhibitions that I was lucky enough to curate at LACP (free and open!).
Marking the 20th anniversary of the iconic TV show Everybody Hates Chris, co-creator, writer and director Ali LeRoi shares never-before-seen moments from his personal archive, creating a powerful visual narrative about chosen families, as well as the shifts between illusions, fantasies, and real-life experiences, and the shaping of collective cultural memory.
As I’ve previously shared, the title of the show speaks to the need and desire to let go of any signs of performativity; to dwell in the messiness of family life, set life, creative life, and share them without hesitation.
Here is a High Resolution conversation we’ve had to mark the opening of the show:

In April, I got to jury an exhibition with Aline Smithson, organized in conjunction with our beloved AnalogCon Festival. Exploring how analog photography shapes a community and a sense of belonging, Fast Forward: Analog Photography as a Third Space grouped images and photographic objects from across the country.
It was lovely to receive a thoughtful review of the show by Kara Bischopink at Musée Magazine. You can read it here.
Alright! Over and out.
Bytesize will be off next week. I will be traveling and celebrating my birthday (!)
If you'd like to get me a present, consider becoming a paid subscriber and/or helping spread the word.
See you in July!
